Carbon markets won't reward intentions—only proof.
Carbon markets are essentially the marketplace for verified emissions cuts—where real reductions can be converted into tradable credits (and, in some cases, real cash flows). For example, an Indian steel producer that can prove emissions reductions from efficiency, waste-heat recovery, renewables, or fuel switching is better placed to unlock stronger buyer conversations, improved financing terms, and potential carbon-credit value.
Article 6 is becoming real—and it will reward companies that can verify outcomes.
Quick context: COP29 is the UN climate summit where countries advance the "rules of the road" for climate action. Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is the part that enables carbon markets—and Article 6.4 is the UN-backed framework for generating tradable carbon credits from verified emissions reductions.
With COP29 moving key standards forward for Article 6.4 carbon crediting, and bilateral pathways under Article 6.2 expanding (India–Japan's JCM is one example), the direction is clear: high-integrity MRV will decide who participates and who gets priced out.
For Metals, Mining & Minerals, this is becoming very practical: MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) will decide which projects get financed, verified, and valued—whether that's carbon-credit revenues, sustainability-linked loans, green/transition capex, multilateral/climate finance, or premium offtake and supply-chain programs that increasingly require auditable emissions data.
In these times, "carbon readiness" is operational readiness:
Metered energy + process data you can trace
Cconsistent calculation logic
Audit trails that stand up to verification
At Kognisense, we help sites build operations-grade MRV that also drives efficiency—so sustainability reporting is not a parallel exercise, but a by-product of better operations (energy, water, fuel, heat recovery, renewables integration).
That includes:
  • digital logbooks for traceable events
  • predictive health monitoring to cut unplanned downtime
  • plant historians that turn raw process data into audit-ready ESG + performance insights
  • measurable reductions in energy, water, waste costs (and more)
If you're exploring waste heat recovery, fuel switching, efficiency revamps, or renewables + storage, MRV is the foundation that makes projects financeable and credit-ready.
